چکیده

A data-driven method of choosing the bandwidth, h, of a kernel density estimator is proposed. It is seen that this mean& of selecting h is asymptotically equivalent to taking the h that minimizes a certain weighted version of the mean integrated square error. Thus, for a given kernel function, the bandwidth can be chosen optimally without making precise smoothness assumptions on the underlying density. The proposed technique is a modification of cross-validation. AMS 1980 Subject Classification: Primary 62GOS, Secondary 62G20

On the Equivalence of Exact and Asymptotically Optimal Bandwidths for Kernel Estimation of Density Functionals

Given a density f we pose the problem of estimating the density functional ψr = ∫ f (r)f making use of kernel methods. This is a well-known problem but some of its features remained unexplored. We focus on the problem of bandwidth selection. Whereas all the previous studies concentrate on an asymptotically optimal bandwidth here we study the properties of exact, nonasymptotic ones, and relate t...

Kernel Density Estimation for Linear Processes: Asymptotic Normality and Optimal Bandwidth Derivation

The problem of estimating the marginal density of a linear process by kernel methods is considered. Under general conditions, kernel density estimators are shown to be asymptotically normal. Their limiting covariance matrix is computed. We also find the optimal bandwidth in the sense that it asymptotically minimizes the mean square error of the estimators. The assumptions involved are easily ve...

Asymptotic Behaviors of Nearest Neighbor Kernel Density Estimator in Left-truncated Data

Kernel density estimators are the basic tools for density estimation in non-parametric statistics.  The k-nearest neighbor kernel estimators represent a special form of kernel density estimators, in  which  the  bandwidth  is varied depending on the location of the sample points. In this paper‎, we  initially introduce the k-nearest neighbor kernel density estimator in the random left-truncatio...

This paper onsiders an alternative that uses a ...
